DOT and OPPO Philippines forge partnership to drive tech-enabled tourism for nation-building

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Millennial Zeal Technology Corporation (MZTC), the official distributor of OPPO Philippines, have signed a landmark partnership aimed at leveraging cutting-edge technology to ensure tourism remains a robust tool for national development, in line with the administration’s vision for a modernized Philippines.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted the transformative potential of the collaboration. “Through this partnership, we are gifted with cutting-edge technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), which allows us to keep the public informed on all the Department’s advocacies, initiatives, and programs, while simultaneously empowering our teams in carrying out our mandate,” Secretary Frasco stated.

The collaboration focuses on modernizing essential tourist touchpoints across the country. Key initiatives include integrating OPPO technology into the 12 Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) nationwide to enhance convenience and safety for travelers. Furthermore, this project aims to transform existing Tourism Information Desks into centralized, one-stop shops utilizing OPPO’s IoT solutions, ensuring tourists receive real-time information, on-the-ground guidance, and immediate assistance.

The partnership will also bolster the DOT’s flagship programs. The Philippine Experience Program (PEP) is set to expand its regional reach significantly through OPPO’s cross-platform promotion and market-store initiatives. Additionally, the iconic Hop-On-Hop-Off (HOHO) Tours will be modernized using OPPO’s innovative urban mobility solutions, providing seamless and contemporary transport options for visitors exploring metropolitan areas.

The ceremonial signing was witnessed by key officials, including DOT Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Ferdinand Jumapao, and Maria Rica Bueno, and Assistant Secretaries Ina Zara-Loyola, Christine Joy Cari, Judilyn Quiachon, and Ronald Conopio. Representing OPPO were Chief Executive Officer Damon Huang, Chief Operating Officer Leo Li, Marketing Director Kefan Yu, and other senior executives.

The DOT and OPPO Philippines are committed to building a smarter, safer, and more convenient Philippine travel experience, ultimately strengthening the tourism sector’s contribution to nation-building.
