In a major step toward democratizing energy information, the Department of Energy (DOE), led by Director Luningning Baltazar, in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), launched PRESYO PH. This innovative, web-based platform is designed to demystify electricity pricing and provide the public with a real-time look at the nation’s energy landscape.
PRESYO PH serves as a digital bridge between complex utility data and everyday consumers. By providing clear, interactive visualizations of how electricity is priced and where it is sourced, the platform empowers Filipinos to understand the “whys” and “hows” of their monthly power bills.
Key features of the platform include:
-
Transparent Generation Rates: Detailed breakdowns of cost components.
-
Energy Mix Tracking: Real-time insights into the ratio of fossil fuels to renewable energy.
-
Policy Support: Accessible data to help lawmakers and local leaders make evidence-based decisions for the power sector.
The launch event featured a high-level panel with experts from the DOE’s Renewable Energy Management Bureau and the Electric Power Industry Management Bureau. The discussion centered on the critical need for energy diversification and the rapid expansion of the country’s renewable energy portfolio.
“Transparency is the foundation of a resilient energy system,” noted the DOE. “By opening up our data, we aren’t just informing the public—we are inviting every Filipino to be a stakeholder in our transition to a cleaner, more stable power grid.”
The panel highlighted that shifting toward indigenous, renewable sources is not only an environmental necessity but a strategic move to ensure a more predictable and reliable energy supply for the future.
Through the collaborative efforts of the DOE and ICSC, PRESYO PH represents a commitment to accountability. By providing the tools necessary to monitor the energy market, the initiative aims to ensure more predictable outcomes for consumers and a sustainable path forward for the Philippine economy.
