In a coordinated effort to shield the public transportation sector from the brunt of rising oil prices, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank) have launched a nationwide ₱10 per liter fuel subsidy program.
This joint initiative responds to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s directive to provide immediate financial relief to transport workers and ensure the stability of public conveyance nationwide.
Under the guidelines of the subsidy program, qualified beneficiaries from the public transport sector can avail themselves of a significant discount to help lower daily operational costs:
-
Subsidy Amount: ₱10.00 discount per liter of fuel.
-
Weekly Limit: Eligible beneficiaries can avail of the discount for a maximum of 150 liters per week.
-
Eligible Vehicles: The program covers traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs), modern PUJs (gasoline and diesel engines), and UV Express units operating nationwide.
To ensure a smooth rollout, the government has partnered with major and independent fuel retailers across the Philippines.
Commuters and transport operators can easily identify participating retail outlets by looking for the official program tarpaulins prominently displayed at the storefronts of gasoline stations.
The LTFRB reminds the public that the list of participating stations is continuously expanding. Transport operators and drivers are highly encouraged to regularly check official government channels and visit local stations for the latest updates and newly onboarded outlets nationwide.
The DOTr, LTFRB, and LandBank reiterate their commitment to the swift and transparent distribution of the subsidy. By leveraging LandBank’s distribution network and the LTFRB’s beneficiary database, the government aims to mitigate the domino effect of fuel price hikes on basic commodities and passenger fares.
