Pres. Marcos Jr. directs DOE and NGCP to swiftly restore power and stabilize the grid after disruptions

Following direct orders from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Energy (DOE) has issued an immediate directive to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to restore critical transmission lines and resolve recent power disruptions affecting various parts of the country.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed that the administration moved swiftly to protect consumers and stabilize the national grid.

“The DOE swiftly ordered NGCP’s restoration of affected transmission lines, specifically the Tayabas-Ilijan 500kV line and the Dasmariñas-Ilijan 500kV line,” Castro stated.

In addition to immediate restoration efforts, the government is demanding full accountability. The NGCP has been directed to submit a comprehensive technical and incident report to determine the root cause of the disruptions and to ensure the safe, efficient return of critical power capacities to the grid.

To minimize the impact on consumers and expedite the recovery process, the DOE is leading a multi-agency effort:

  • Grid Synchronization: The DOE is actively collaborating with private generation companies to safely bring affected power supply capacities back online.

  • Task Force Mobilization: The Grid Reliability Task Force has been fully mobilized to oversee the situation.

The task force comprises key energy sector agencies, including:

  1. Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)

  2. Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP)

  3. National Transmission Corporation (TransCo)

  4. Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM)

The administration reassures the public that all necessary resources are being deployed to restore normalcy, reinforce grid reliability, and prevent future power instabilities.
