CEB, Air Asia expanding MROs to service other airlines

Cebu Pacific Air and Air Asia Philippines are expanding their maintenance and repair operation (MRO) services capabilities and facilities to include the repairs and maintenance of aircraft of other airlines.

Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque revealed this as she would be leading an investment mission to Toronto, Canada, targeting Canadian aviation companies to have their maintenance and repairs operations (MROs) be done in the Philippines, which offers improved capabilities in providing MRO services.  Roque will lead an investment mission to Toronto, Canada on April 25-27, 2025.

According to Roque, the Gokongwei-owned Cebu Pacific and the Malaysian-owned Air Asia spoke to her about the expansion of their  that they are expanding their repairs

Already, local carriers Cebu Pacific and Air Asia spoke to her about the expansion of their repair operations to be able to service the airplanes of other airline companies. Aside from the revenue stream from the flights, Roque said the MRO service is another source of income for the airlines.

Roque noted of the increased number of airlines, whose aircraft are being serviced in the Philippines. “A380 is being repaired here so we would like other airlines to have their planes repaired here, also,” she said. Lufthansa Technik Philippines is servicing the Airbus A380 at its facilities in Manila.

Roque is also working to level up the competence of Filipino pilots with the potential creation of a fund for pilot training, noting the huge amount needed for pilot training.

Aside from the aviation sector, Roque said she will inaugurate the SME Hub in the Toronto Philippine consulate for the promotion of Filipino products in Canada.
