DPWH completes Phase 1 of Malibago-Balagbag Ridge Road in Marinduque

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed Phase 1 of the Malibago-Balagbag Ridge Road Project—an essential infrastructure initiative that promises improved accessibility and economic opportunities for residents and farmers in Barangay Malibago, Torrijos, Marinduque.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan shared that the 1.94-kilometer road segment marks a significant milestone in transforming what was once a rugged, nearly impassable terrain into a reliable transport route. Previously, locals had to walk or use carabaos to transport goods to nearby markets.

“The completion of this road is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s ‘Build Better More’ program, which emphasizes the development of road networks in remote areas to support agricultural productivity and spur regional economic growth,” Director Pacanan said.

The project is expected to cut travel time from one hour to just 10–15 minutes—greatly enhancing the movement of people, products, and services. This development is especially crucial for local farmers, as it provides faster access to market centers and essential services.

Additional project components include a 1.86-kilometer lined canal with concrete shoulders and the installation of 30 solar-powered streetlights, enhancing both road safety and climate resilience.

Implemented by the DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office, Phase 1 was completed under the 2023 national budget for ₱96.49 million. Phase 2, with a similar budget of ₱96.50 million, is currently 79.38% complete.
