The Philippine National Police (PNP) has officially launched Ligtas SUMVAC 2025 (Safe Summer Vacation)—a nationwide public safety and security initiative designed to protect citizens during the Lenten season.
During a press briefing at Malacañang on Tuesday, P/Maj. Gen. Roderick Augustus B. Alba, PNP Director for Police Community Relations, emphasized the program’s collaborative approach, developed in partnership with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Holy Week observance.
To bolster security efforts, the PNP has strategically deployed more than 65,000 police officers nationwide, concentrating on key areas such as transport terminals, airports, seaports, highways, churches, pilgrimage sites, tourist destinations, and residential areas left unattended during the holidays.
Supporting these efforts are volunteer groups, mobile patrols, and heightened police visibility in high-risk and densely populated areas. The PNP aims to maintain law and order from April 1 to May 31, 2025, with a strong focus on proactive security measures, including increased patrol operations and reinforced coordination with government agencies and local authorities.
Despite assurances that no validated threats to public safety have been identified for Holy Week, Alba stressed that the PNP remains on full alert, particularly in historically vulnerable locations.
“Our intelligence units are in constant coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard to anticipate and prevent potential threats. We are also intensifying security measures around vital installations, such as power plants, communication infrastructure, and transport hubs,” he stated.
Additionally, the PNP, in partnership with private security groups and local crisis management councils, is prepared to handle road and sea travel incidents, ensuring swift responses and nationwide readiness.
With Ligtas SUMVAC 2025 in place, the PNP reaffirms its commitment to providing safe and secure environments for Filipinos as they observe Holy Week traditions and enjoy their summer vacations.
