In a concerted effort to enhance passenger travel safety and comfort, as directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon conducted a series of crucial inspections at key transportation hubs across the Philippines.
Today, Secretary Dizon, alongside Senate President Chiz Escudero, Sorsogon Governor Jose Edwin Hamor, and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago, visited the Matnog Port in Sorsogon. The inspection focused on streamlining port operations to expedite passenger travel between Matnog and Allen, Samar.
“Our priority is to alleviate congestion and ensure smoother travel for all passengers,” stated Secretary Dizon. “We are implementing immediate measures to accelerate ship docking and departure processes. Furthermore, we are initiating the construction of a substantial expansion area to accommodate the large volume of trucks and buses currently causing traffic congestion on the highway leading to the port.”
This initiative aims to significantly reduce travel time and improve the overall passenger experience, addressing the current challenges faced by travelers using the vital Matnog Port.
Before the Matnog Port inspection, Secretary Dizon, accompanied by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) officials, inspected the Naga and Bicol Airports. This visit was part of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) ongoing commitment to upgrading regional airports nationwide, aligning with President Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safe and comfortable air travel.
Yesterday, Secretary Dizon also conducted a thorough inspection of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA). The focus of this inspection was to verify adherence to international safety standards. Key areas examined included the arrival and departure areas, e-gates at immigration, bollards, and traffic and passenger drop-off flow.
“Ensuring the safety and efficiency of our international airports is paramount,” Secretary Dizon emphasized. “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards to provide a seamless and secure experience for all travelers.”
These inspections underscore the DOTr’s proactive approach to improving the nation’s transportation infrastructure, ensuring that Filipinos and international visitors alike benefit from safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experiences.
