Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon today underscored the critical role of clear, internationally standardized visual cues and signage at transport hubs to ensure seamless and stress-free travel for commuters. His remarks align with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to alleviate the daily burden of commuting by addressing seemingly minor yet crucial issues within the country’s transportation systems.
During an inspection of the MRT-3 Boni and Shaw Stations, Secretary Dizon highlighted the significance of effective wayfinding. “Signages and wayfinders are extremely important at airports, train systems, and bus stops because they greatly contribute to the comfort of the commuter experience,” Secretary Dizon stated.
The Transportation chief emphasized that all signage and visual cues must adhere to international standards for uniformity with other rail lines, featuring clear and visible fonts and globally accepted designs. This commitment to quality was evident when Secretary Dizon ordered the removal of a recently donated station signage at the MRT-3 Shaw Station, which had drawn criticism from commuters.
“The workmanship was very poor. I will not allow shoddy, tarpaulin-like signage, similar to what you’d find in Recto, to be installed in our stations,” Secretary Dizon asserted. “We’re going to take this out, and we’re going to put in signage that is globally accepted.”
This move reinforces the Department of Transportation’s dedication to enhancing the commuter experience by ensuring that even the smallest details meet global benchmarks for quality and clarity.
