President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday expressed strong satisfaction with the marked improvements and progress at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) since the Department of Transportation (DOTr) turned over its operations and maintenance to the San Miguel-led private concessionaire, the New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC).
During an inspection of facilities at NAIA Terminal 3, which included the Immigration Area, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Immigration Annex, OFW Lounge and Rest Area, Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) area, and Arrival curbside area, President Marcos Jr. lauded the visible enhancements.
“Kitang kita namin na marami na ang mga pagbabago and the facilities for the OFWs ay gumanda na,” the chief executive stated, highlighting the significant upgrades for Filipino migrant workers.
The President also anticipated further enhancements at the country’s main gateway, aiming to elevate the travel experience for all passengers, including OFWs and tourists. “It’s the nicest that I’ve seen this airport in 20 to 30 years, so we’ll keep going,” he remarked, underscoring the transformative changes.
Accompanied by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, President Marcos Jr. reiterated the government’s commitment to exploring innovative solutions and leveraging the best available technology to streamline processes for all airport users. This includes the planned rollout of electronic or e-gates equipped with facial recognition features.
NNIC President Ramon Ang confirmed that the e-gates with facial recognition capability are anticipated to be rolled out within the next six months, promising a more efficient and seamless experience for travelers.
