Completion of Siargao airport terminal seen by end this year

The modular expansion of Siargao airport terminal is expected to be completed by December this year, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

On June 6, 2025, the DOTr said that Secretary Vince Dizon and officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) inspected the Siargao airport terminal, which expansion more than double its passenger seating capacity to 629 from the current 256.

At present, the island’s airport handles an average of 17 commercial flights daily as more international tourists flock to the island, which is known for surfing, pristine beaches, and natural attractions.

The inspection is line with the President’s order to enhance and improve the country’s regional airports as it play a critical role in driving economic growth and tourism.

Dizon, who visited the airport last month, said they returned to Siargao to jumpstart the construction.

Dizon also instructed CAAP to ensure that the proposed expansion of the Siargao passenger terminal building will comply with the aviation safety standards so that more passengers and tourists may be accommodated in the facility once completed.

Architect Royal Pineda and designer Kenneth Cobonpue also joined the inspection.

Siargao is seen as a potential international gateway due to the island’s tourist attraction. Long-term plans include a new world-class passenger terminal and a runway extension.
