The Philippines’ total agricultural trade reached USD 2.49 billion in May 2025, marking an annual increase of 1.2 percent, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This growth continues the positive trend observed in previous months, with April 2025 and May 2024 recording annual increases of 5.0 percent and 17.1 percent, respectively.
In May 2025, agricultural exports amounted to USD 734.42 million, representing 29.5 percent of the total agricultural trade. Agricultural imports accounted for the larger share at USD 1.75 billion, or 70.5 percent of the total.
The balance of trade in agricultural goods registered a deficit of USD -1.02 billion, reflecting an annual decrement of 16.8 percent. This deficit follows an annual decrease of 6.1 percent in April 2025, contrasting with an annual increase of 37.7 percent in May 2024.
Agricultural export revenue saw a significant rise, increasing by 19.0 percent annually to USD 734.42 million in May 2025, up from USD 617.03 million in May 2024. This figure contributed 10.1 percent to the country’s total exports for the month.
The top 10 commodity groups were major contributors to this export growth, collectively accounting for USD 716.30 million, or 97.5 percent, of the total agricultural export revenue in May 2025. These commodity groups experienced a combined annual increase of 21.3 percent.
Notably, “edible fruit and nuts, peel of citrus fruit or melons” emerged as the leading commodity group, valued at USD 257.99 million and comprising 35.1 percent of total agricultural exports in May 2025.
The Philippines’ agricultural exports to ASEAN member countries in May 2025 were led by:
- Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes; products, whether or not containing nicotine, intended for inhalation without combustion; other nicotine-containing products intended for the intake of nicotine into the human body: USD 19.72 million
- Animal, vegetable, or microbial fats and oils and their cleavage products; prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes: USD 15.81 million
- Miscellaneous edible preparations: USD 4.82 million
Exports of agricultural goods to EU member countries reached USD 151.77 million in May 2025, contributing 19.4 percent to the country’s total value of exports to EU member countries.
Among EU nations, Spain was the top destination, receiving USD 53.39 million in agricultural commodities, representing 35.2 percent of total agricultural exports to the EU.
