The Philippines and Cambodia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation and expanding private-sector partnerships in the livestock industry during a business matching activity held at the Food Development Center in Taguig City on July 22, 2026.
The activity brought together government officials and industry representatives from both countries to discuss livestock development, explore investment opportunities, and strengthen technical cooperation toward more sustainable and competitive livestock industries.
Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to address production challenges, particularly the high cost of pork production.
“The private sector and the government sector can work together to address production costs and ensure a stable and sustainable livestock supply,” Minister Dith Tina said.
Representing the Department of Agriculture (DA), Assistant Secretary for Swine and Poultry Michael J. Garcia emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in achieving shared agricultural goals.
“This meeting reflects our shared commitment to advancing food security, promoting sustainable livestock development, and strengthening agricultural and trade partnerships within the ASEAN region,” Garcia said.
During the meeting, the National Livestock Program (NLP), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), and National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) presented updates on the Philippine livestock sector, including government initiatives and the status of Cambodia’s market access requests.
The business matching activity formed part of the Cambodian delegation’s official visit to the Philippines and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening agricultural trade, technical cooperation, and livestock development through sustained government and private-sector collaboration.
