DPWH provides update on road accessibility following cyclone Crising

As of 6:00 AM today, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reports that two national road sections in Antique and Southern Leyte remain impassable to all types of vehicles. In contrast, one road section in Camarines Sur has limited access. These disruptions are attributed to the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclone Crising.

In a report submitted to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance identified the affected road sections:

  • Iloilo-Antique Road: A portion of this road in Barangay Carit-an, Patnongon, Antique, is impassable due to fallen trees.
  • San Ricardo-Bilatan Road: Located in Barangay Camang, San Ricardo, Southern Leyte, this section is also impassable due to soil erosion and fallen trees.

Additionally, the Tinambac-Siruma Road, K0522+000 in Camarines Sur, is currently flooded and is only passable to heavy vehicles.

The DPWH has promptly installed warning signs along all affected national road sections and has initiated extensive clearing operations to restore full accessibility as quickly as possible.

Days before the onset of these conditions, Secretary Bonoan activated the Department’s Disaster and Incident Management Teams. These teams were strategically deployed across the forecasted path of Tropical Cyclone Crising, covering the Cordillera Administrative Region, Regions 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8. A total of 4,928 prepositioned personnel, supported by 854 pieces of equipment, are continuously monitoring the road situation in these vulnerable areas and are ready to respond to further incidents.

The DPWH urges motorists and the public to exercise extreme caution when traveling through affected areas and to heed all warning signs and advisories. The Department is working tirelessly to ensure the safety of commuters and the swift restoration of normal traffic flow.
