The final results of the 2022 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) reveal a robust expansion in the country’s transportation and storage sector. The report shows significant increases in the number of establishments, total employment, and average annual compensation, signaling a positive trajectory for the industry.
A total of 3,066 establishments were engaged in transportation and storage activities in 2022, marking a 2.4 percent increase from the previous year. This growth was accompanied by a rise in the total workforce, which reached 221,493 workers—a 6.2 percent increase from 2021. The “Support activities for transportation” industry group was a key driver of this growth, accounting for the highest number of establishments (1,340) and employing the most workers (85,472) within the sector.
Geographically, the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to be the hub for the industry, hosting 1,505 establishments and employing nearly 60 percent of the total workforce. CALABARZON and Central Visayas followed as the next most significant regions for the sector’s activity.
The survey also highlighted improved compensation for workers. The section’s total compensation reached PhP 77.64 billion. This translated to an average annual compensation of PhP 352.55 thousand per paid employee, representing a 6.8 percent increase from 2021. Passenger air transport emerged as the top-paying industry group, with an average annual compensation of PhP 1.23 million per paid employee.
