PAL issues travel advisory for increased Siargao passenger traffic during surf season

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is advising passengers traveling to and from Siargao to prepare for increased passenger traffic and potential flight adjustments between September 23 and October 31, 2025. The advisory comes as the island, known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, hosts a series of major national and international surfing competitions.

Siargao’s Surf Season and Event Schedule

Siargao is set to welcome a large number of athletes, spectators, and tourists for four significant surfing events, leading to a surge in air travel. Passengers flying to and from Sayak Airport (IAO) should be aware of the following competition dates:

2nd Pacifico National Surfing Competition 2025: September 23–27

Tuason Challenge 2025: September 29–October 4

Mayor Jaime Plaza Rusillon Cloud 9 Memorial Surfing Cup 2025: October 6–11

World Surf League 2025: October 24–31

Important Baggage Information for Siargao-Bound Flights

PAL reminds passengers that flights to Siargao are operated by turboprop aircraft, which have a smaller cargo hold compared to jet aircraft. This limited capacity may affect the transport of large or heavy items.

Passengers traveling with surfboards or other oversized equipment should be prepared for the possibility that their baggage may be offloaded due to space or weight limitations. If this occurs, the airline will ensure the affected baggage is transported on the next available flight and promptly delivered to the passenger’s destination.

To facilitate a smooth process, passengers are strongly encouraged to update their contact details in their booking. Having current phone numbers and email addresses on file will allow PAL’s airport and ground personnel to contact you immediately with updates on your baggage.

Philippine Airlines appreciates the cooperation and understanding of its passengers as it works to ensure a safe and seamless travel experience during this busy period. For further information or assistance, passengers may visit the Philippine Airlines website or contact their customer service hotline.
