NAIA Travel advisory: Flight disruptions expected due to Typhoon Opong

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is issuing a crucial travel advisory for all passengers, as Typhoon Opong is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall across key parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, from Friday evening through to early Saturday.

These adverse weather conditions are expected to significantly impact airport operations and potentially lead to delays, diversions, or cancellations of both domestic and international flights at NAIA.

Actions for All Travelers:

Contact Your Airline Immediately: Passengers with flights scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday morning are strongly advised to check the status of their flight directly with their respective airline before traveling to the airport. Airlines will have the most current information regarding specific flight adjustments, rebooking options, or cancellation policies.

NAIA will be actively coordinating with all airlines to manage the situation and minimize inconvenience, but the final decision on flight status rests with the carriers.

Exercise Road Safety: For those who must travel to or from the airport, please take extra precaution on the roads. Heavy rains may cause flooding, reduced visibility, and hazardous driving conditions. Allow for significantly more travel time.

Monitor Official Weather Updates: Stay informed by regularly checking advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and local government units.

The safety of all passengers, airport personnel, and stakeholders is our utmost priority. NAIA is implementing all necessary contingency measures and remains in close coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), air traffic control, and partner airlines to manage the effects of the typhoon.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we navigate this severe weather event. Further updates will be provided through our official channels.
