The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), through its Port Management Office (PMO) Surigao, has announced the immediate cancellation of all sea voyages bound for Siargao, Dinagat Islands, Southern Leyte, and Cebu. This decisive action, effective today, September 25, 2025, is a preemptive measure to ensure the safety of the travelling public and avoid stranded passengers as Tropical Depression Opong continues to move closer to the area.
Preparedness and Coordination
PMO Surigao is actively implementing its comprehensive preparedness plan in coordination with key government agencies.
Humanitarian Aid Ready: Food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have been pre-positioned and are readily available for immediate distribution should the need arise.
Operational Readiness: The Port of Surigao has confirmed that all generator units are fully operational and prepared to maintain essential services.
Multi-Agency Cooperation: PMO Surigao is in continuous close coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the DSWD, and respective Local Government Units (LGUs) to monitor the weather situation and ensure a synchronized response for public safety.
Advisory to Passengers
The PPA strongly advises all passengers planning to travel to the affected destinations to contact their respective shipping lines immediately for the latest and most accurate updates regarding trip schedules and rebooking options.
“The safety of the travelling public remains our paramount concern,” said the PMO Surigao management. “We urge everyone to comply with the cancellation orders and prioritize their safety. We will issue further announcements as soon as the weather permits the resumption of normal operations.”
The public is encouraged to monitor official announcements from the PPA, PCG, and PAGASA for real-time information.
