The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) officially inaugurated and blessed its new Migrant Workers Office in Budapest, Hungary, on October 18, 2025, a significant step forward in the Philippine government’s commitment to delivering accessible and compassionate services to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) across Europe.
The Budapest office holds the distinction of being the very first overseas branch established by the DMW since its creation a year ago to unify and enhance government services for OFWs. Its launch signals the beginning of the DMW’s direct global presence, bringing vital support closer to Filipino communities and fulfilling the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize OFW welfare.
During the blessing ceremony, DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac expressed profound gratitude and warmth, calling the new facility more than just an office—but “a true home” for Filipino workers in Hungary.
“We opened more than just doors; we opened a new chapter of service, compassion, and commitment,” Secretary Cacdac stated. “The establishment of this office underscores the DMW’s steadfast dedication to delivering compassionate, efficient, and integrity-driven service to our Bagong Bayani abroad.”
Strategically located near the iconic Hungarian Parliament building, the Migrant Workers Office serves as a tangible symbol of the Philippine government’s unwavering support and care for its citizens abroad.
The blessing was officiated by Father Elmer Escalona Hernandez, SVD, who offered prayers for the continued success of the DMW’s mission and the well-being of all Filipinos working overseas.
