ICTSI’s Manila International Container Terminal activates full contingency plan ahead of Super Typhoon Uwan

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) announced that its flagship facility, the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), will remain operational with enhanced monitoring as it prepares for the approaching Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong).

ICTSI has activated its full-scale storm contingency protocols, prioritizing the safety of port personnel, port users, and cargo, while striving to maintain vital trade continuity for the Philippine capital.

Currently, standard operations are continuing across the Quay, Yard, and Gate sections of the terminal. However, the operational tempo is being managed under strict guidelines:

  • Stop-and-Go Operations: A dynamic stop-and-go procedure has been implemented. Terminal activities will be instantly suspended or resumed as necessary, based on real-time wind speed measurements provided by local meteorological authorities. This ensures that safety thresholds are not breached while maximizing the window for cargo movement.
  • Cargo Securing: All non-essential movements have been halted, and comprehensive measures are in place to secure container stacks, equipment, and terminal infrastructure against high winds and heavy rainfall.
  • Stakeholder Communication: The MICT management team is in constant coordination with government agencies and the shipping community to provide timely updates and adjust vessel berthing schedules accordingly.

ICTSI remains fully committed to mitigating the potential impact of this severe weather event while ensuring the safest possible working environment.

The management encourages all stakeholders, truckers, and port users to continuously monitor subsequent announcements for the latest updates on the port operation schedule and any necessary advisories regarding the movement of cargo.
