Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac underscored the Philippines’ enduring commitment to its maritime workforce, emphasizing the critical role of cooperation between government, labor, and industry during the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP).
Secretary Cacdac, joined by Assistant Secretary Jerome T. Pampolina, attended the milestone event on November 11, 2025, at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Held under the theme, “Anchored in Strength, Sailing into the Future,” the celebration brought together an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 seafarers, maritime partners, and key stakeholders.
In his address, Secretary Cacdac acknowledged the unwavering dedication of Filipino seafarers, whose contributions are vital to maintaining the fluidity of global maritime trade. The Secretary also recognized AMOSUP’s six decades of service, which has provided crucial training, essential health services, and robust welfare support to seafarers and their families.
Highlighting a key pillar of the DMW’s strategy, Secretary Cacdac emphasized the importance of tripartism. He lauded the strong cooperation among the government, labor unions, and the maritime industry in developing forward-looking policies that guarantee dignified work, uphold rights, and foster career development for Filipino mariners.
“Our commitment to the Filipino seafarer is rooted in collaboration,” said Secretary Cacdac. “By strengthening the links between the DMW, AMOSUP, and our industry partners, we ensure that the policies we implement are comprehensive, effective, and truly reflective of the needs of our workers both at sea and ashore.”
As the global maritime sector continues its evolution, the DMW reaffirms its pledge to work closely with AMOSUP and its partners to proactively enhance seafarers’ rights, elevate safety and welfare standards onboard, and facilitate professional growth opportunities.
The DMW and AMOSUP remain united in their mission to ensure that every Filipino seafarer is consistently valued, protected, and empowered in their crucial role on the world stage.
