Government honors champions of Energy Efficiency at 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards

The government, through the Department of Energy (DOE), marks the 5th year of the Energy Efficiency Excellence (EEE) Awards, continuing its tradition of recognizing outstanding private and public sector organizations that demonstrate unwavering dedication to advancing the country’s energy efficiency and conservation agenda.

This year’s honorees have played a pivotal role in supporting the government’s long-term energy goals by significantly reducing energy consumption and championing sustainable practices within their respective institutions. Their initiatives not only align with national energy policies, such as Republic Act No. 11285, also known as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act. The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (NEECP) also set a powerful example of corporate and institutional responsibility, showcasing how innovation and strategic action can drive the nation toward a more energy-efficient future.

“By celebrating these exemplary efforts, we are sending a clear message that energy efficiency is no longer a side initiative but a core pillar of national development,” Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said. “These awardees show that when government, businesses, and institutions work together to treat every kilowatt-hour saved as a resource, we protect our environment, strengthen our energy security, and build a more competitive and resilient future for Filipino communities.”

For this 5th edition of the EEE Awards, the Validation Committee received 477 entries from both the public and private sectors. Each entry underwent a rigorous evaluation process, including thorough onsite and virtual validations, to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all submitted data.

Out of the 477 entries, 219 were shortlisted and assessed, categorized as follows:

  • 185 entries for Energy Management for Industries and Buildings
  • 7 entries for Outstanding Energy Efficiency Practitioners and Entities
  • 6 entries for Government Entities
  • 21 entries for Special Awards

Following the comprehensive review, the DOE conferred awards on 32 outstanding entities whose remarkable initiatives have resulted in total energy savings of 22,504,406.98 kWhe. This achievement corresponds to an estimated avoidance of 17,596.59 tCO₂ in greenhouse gas emissions, reinforcing the transformative impact of energy efficiency measures on the environment. “I extend my warmest congratulations to all the awardees. As we celebrate your accomplishments, may this inspire others and build on the successes of those leading the way in energy conservation and sustainability,” Secretary Garin said.

The EEE Awards, formerly known as the Don Emilio Abello Awards, is rooted in the Philippines’ journey toward energy conservation and sustainability. Named after Don Emilio Abello, the Father of the Energy Conservation Movement in the Philippines and former Meralco Chairman and CEO during the 1970s OPEC oil crisis, the Awards honor his pioneering efforts that underscored the urgency of energy conservation and helped build the enduring culture of sustainable energy practices the country upholds today.

This year’s 32 awardees include leading industrial and commercial facilities, government institutions, and individual champions whose exemplary initiatives under the Energy Management for Industries and Buildings, Outstanding Energy Efficiency Practitioners and Entities, Government Entities, and Special Awards categories set new benchmarks for excellence in the implementation of energy efficiency and conservation measures. Their achievements stand as concrete proof that energy efficiency delivers real gains for businesses, government, communities, and the environment, further encouraging more organizations to join the country’s collective push toward a more secure, sustainable, and energy-efficient future.
