LRTA and SM Supermalls partner to build weather-protected interconnection bridge for LRT-2 Passengers

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and SM Supermalls have officially entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to construct a state-of-the-art interconnecting bridge designed to provide a seamless, safe, and weather-protected transition for LRT-2 commuters.

The project, scheduled to break ground in the first quarter of 2026, aims to significantly improve the daily experience of thousands of rail users by linking the station directly to the commercial hub.

The planned facility is more than a simple walkway; it is a dedicated infrastructure project focused on passenger welfare. Under the MOA, the bridge will feature:

  • All-Weather Protection: A fully covered walkway to shield commuters from heat and heavy rain.

  • Modern Amenities: Integrated ventilation systems and high-quality lighting.

  • Security & Safety: 24/7 CCTV coverage, regular security patrols, and emergency safety features.

  • Ease of Navigation: Clear directional signage to streamline foot traffic during peak hours.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to alleviate congestion and provide a safer alternative to street-level crossings, particularly during inclement weather.

The MOA signing ceremony was attended by key leadership from both the public and private sectors, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships in urban development.

Key attendees included:

  • Hernando T. Cabrera, LRTA Administrator

  • Junias M. Eusebio, SM Supermalls Vice President

  • Ronald Allan D. Brosas, Senior Assistant Vice President of SM Supermalls

  • Engr. Jomar R. Lua, OIC Director IV of the Rail Standards and Enforcement Office

  • Dr. Paul Y. Chua, Deputy Administrator of LRTA

  • Evelyn Janeo, OIC of the LRTA Business Development and Public Relations Division

  • Atty. Ronald Redentor G. de Veyra, Head Executive Assistant of LRTA

“This project is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the commuting experience,” said the LRTA. “By collaborating with SM Supermalls, we are ensuring that our passengers have a comfortable and secure path to their destinations.”
