DOTr to expand EDSA busway with three new stations in 2026

Following a direct mandate from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to enhance public transport efficiency, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced a major expansion of the EDSA Busway system, including the addition of three new stations and the imminent opening of a modernized facility in Kamuning.

To improve “time and motion” for commuters and encourage the shift to public transit, the DOTr has awarded the contracts for three strategic new stations located in:

  • Cubao

  • Magallanes

  • Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX)

The bidding process was finalized in December, with construction scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026. The agency expects these stations to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2026.

“We want to strengthen and accelerate the movement of our public transportation along EDSA,” said Transportation Undersecretary for Road Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor. “These new stations are vital to ensuring that commuting becomes a faster and more reliable option for Filipinos.”

In addition to the upcoming construction, Usec. Pastor highlighted the near-completion of the Kamuning Station, which is scheduled for inauguration in the first quarter of 2026.

The new Kamuning facility represents a shift toward more inclusive infrastructure, featuring:

  • Dedicated Accessibility: Equipped with elevators and escalators specifically designed to assist Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and pregnant women.

  • Independent Infrastructure: A new, dedicated footbridge separate from the MRT-3 to streamline foot traffic and improve safety.

The expansion aligns with the administration’s priority to modernize road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion in Metro Manila. By increasing the number of access points and improving the quality of existing terminals, the DOTr aims to provide a seamless “end-to-end” travel experience for the thousands of daily busway passengers.
