Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) celebrated a milestone conclusion to the year with the arrival of Aero K Airlines’ inaugural flight, RF523, from Cheongju, South Korea. Touching down in the early dawn hours of December 31, the flight marks the final route launch of 2025, setting a vibrant tone for the airport’s expansion in 2026.
The arrival of the Airbus A320 was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute as it taxied to the gate. To commemorate the launch, MCIA officials and Aero K representatives hosted a ceremonial ribbon and cake-cutting event, followed by a photo opportunity with the flight crew. Arriving passengers from Cheongju and departing travelers heading to South Korea were treated to a warm Cebuano welcome, receiving traditional leis and commemorative tokens.
This new direct service provides a strategic link between the Central Visayas and Cheongju, the capital of North Chungcheong Province. For Filipino travelers, Cheongju serves as a “fresh gateway” to South Korea, offering a unique alternative to the bustling hubs of Seoul and Busan. It provides easier access to the scenic landscapes of central Korea and serves as a convenient entry point for those looking to explore the country’s hidden gems.
Conversely, the route offers Korean travelers a direct path to Cebu’s world-class white-sand beaches, rich historical landmarks, and burgeoning eco-tourism scene.
