DOTr announces the reopening of key MRT-3 Shaw Boulevard escalators

Commuters at the MRT-3 Shaw Boulevard Station can expect a smoother journey soon. Following a joint inspection this Saturday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed that the Greenfield southbound escalator is set to resume operations on February 15, 2026.

DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez and MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati led the inspection. The officials met with Greenfield management to address the long-standing maintenance issues, aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize the accessibility and maintenance of the nation’s railway systems.

To ensure a systematic return to service, the restoration of the escalators will follow a phased schedule:

  • February 15, 2026: Southbound Greenfield escalator resumes operation.

  • March 1, 2026: Northbound Greenfield escalator scheduled to open.

While full replacement and repairs are underway, the DOTr reminds the public that priority facilities remain available for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women.

Alternative Access Points:

  • Northbound: Station Building A (Shangri-La side)

  • Southbound: Station Building A (Starmall side)

Secretary Giovanni Lopez emphasized the urgency of the repairs, noting that the cooperation of private management is vital to the station’s efficiency. “I expect the full cooperation of the Greenfield Management and that they will expedite the replacement and repair of the escalators,” said Sec. Lopez. “This will be a great help to our passengers and is in direct accordance with the order of our President to provide a faster, safer, and more convenient route for all MRT-3 riders.”

The DOTr-MRT3 remains committed to monitoring the progress of these repairs to ensure the deadlines are met and that public convenience is restored without further delay.
