Globe Telecom, recently named by Ookla as the Most Consistent Mobile Network and Most Consistent Fixed Network in the Philippines, is set to fully roll out its Starlink Direct-to-Cell service by the second quarter of this year for as low as PHP99 a month.
Eric Tanbauco, Globe vice president for consumer mobile business, told LogisticsNews.PH during The Blueprint by Globe, a flagship quarterly media event by Globe, the telecommunications arm of Ayala Corporation, they are still in soft launching the new service in some pilot areas.
“But by early second quarter this year, all of our group customers will be able to enjoy connectivity, not just from our cell site, but actually from the satellite services of Starlink,” Tanbauco said.
“If you are a prepaid customers, its just PHP99 for 30 days for around 10 gig of satellite access,” he said. For those with higher plans, the service is actually free.
Tanbauco said the pricing scheme is designed as an affordable and accessible service for all Filipinos.
Globe has a pioneering partnership with Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell satellite technology. Following the live pilot trial, Globe and Starlink are preparing to expand testing across additional locations and operational scenarios.
The satellite mobile service is also aimed to be deployed in affected areas during times of natural calamities free of charge.
Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz noted that digital connectivity is not just about speed, but is now an essential utility in a modern world.
