DTI to host ASEAN Business Environment Forum 2026, focusing on boosting regional growth

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced on Monday that the upcoming ASEAN Business Environment Forum (ABEF) 2026, scheduled for March 11, will serve as a critical platform for advancing regulatory reforms and the “ease of doing business” across the Southeast Asian region.

In a pre-event briefing, DTI–Foreign Trade Service Corps Executive Director Benedict Uy highlighted that the forum aims to address the bureaucratic hurdles that often stifle innovation and economic movement.

A primary focus of the forum will be the reduction of “red tape.” The head of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) is slated to speak on national initiatives designed to streamline government procedures.

“The government’s core thrust is to simplify processes so that the precious time and resources of our people are poured into actual business operations, rather than complying with regulatory hurdles,” Director Uy stated.

Beyond regulatory reform, ABEF 2026 will dive into the logistical backbone of the region. Key topics include:

  • Supply Chain Efficiency: Optimizing the movement of goods across borders.

  • Logistics Infrastructure: Reducing delays and costs in the service sector.

  • Policy Integration: Translating forum discussions into actionable regional policy.

The insights gathered during the forum will not remain in a vacuum. Director Uy confirmed that key recommendations will be elevated to the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials’ Meeting (SEOM) and the Economic Ministers’ Retreat. This ensures that the concerns of the private sector directly inform high-level regional policy, creating a more transparent and competitive business environment.

The DTI is calling for active participation from the entire business spectrum—from multinational corporations to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The forum is a unique opportunity for business owners to voice their concerns and ensure that future reforms are designed to support their specific growth trajectories.
