SM Prime boosts urban mobility with multi-million peso transport infrastructure partnership

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), one of Southeast Asia’s leading integrated property developers, is strengthening its commitment to national development by spearheading a series of strategic transport infrastructure projects designed to transform the commuting experience across the Greater Manila Area.

By leveraging the strategic locations of its expansive mall network, SM Prime is working in close coordination with government agencies to bridge the gap between public transit and commercial hubs, prioritizing safety, convenience, and efficiency.

“Urban mobility is central to national development. By working with government, we are able to improve access points that affect commuters every day,” said Jeffrey C. Lim, SM Prime President. “This partnership started during the pandemic, when improving public transport access became a priority. The facilities are now largely in place.”

A flagship project in this initiative is a P300-million investment to construct a direct pedestrian link between the LRT-2 Antipolo Station and SM City Masinag.

Under a public-private partnership with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), this project will feature:

  • Weather-protected walkways: Eliminating the need for street-level crossings.

  • Universal Accessibility: Integration of ramps, elevators, and escalators.

  • Enhanced Security: Comprehensive lighting and CCTV systems.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with the link expected to be fully operational within six months.

Building on the success of the SM North EDSA Busway Concourse, which opened in March 2025, SM Prime is currently replicating this high-efficiency model at SM Megamall.

The construction of the Megamall concourse is already underway, with the northbound section slated for completion by the first quarter of 2026. These facilities provide commuters with seamless transitions between malls and the EDSA Busway via climate-controlled and elevated paths.

Beyond physical structures, SM Prime has partnered with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to integrate digital solutions into the commuter journey. Select mall digital directories now feature live traffic feeds from the MMDA’s AI Traffic Management System. This allows mall-goers and commuters to monitor road conditions in real-time and plan their departures more effectively.

Through these combined efforts in physical infrastructure and digital integration, SM Prime continues to support the government’s vision of a more connected and mobile Philippines.
