38 families relocated to new housing in San Pedro, Laguna under NSCR extension project

Thirty-eight beneficiary families have officially moved into their new homes on Tuesday as part of the government’s housing initiative linked to the North-South Commuter Railway Extension Project (NSCR-EX).

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is leading the funding and construction of the 11-building housing development, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure that project-affected persons (PAPs) are relocated to safe, adequate, and accessible communities.

“We will complete transportation projects that will definitely benefit commuters. And we will not abandon the affected families—we will provide them with homes they can truly call their own,” said Transportation Secretary Jaime “Banoy” Lopez.

The 38 families comprise the first batch of beneficiaries now residing in Building 9 of Sining Residences I, located in Barangay Bagong Silang, San Pedro, Laguna. By June 2026, an additional five buildings are expected to be completed, accommodating approximately 240 more families impacted by the NSCR project.

Once fully developed, the relocation site will feature 528 housing units across 11 buildings, along with essential community facilities such as a school, transport terminal, and other amenities designed to support sustainable living.

Assistant Secretary for Right-of-Way and Site Acquisition (ROWSA) IC Calaguas emphasized the government’s holistic support for beneficiaries, including relocation assistance, utility installation, and livelihood programs.

“Nine relocation sites are currently being developed by the DOTr—six in Southern Luzon and three in Northern Luzon. We aim to complete these by mid-2027. The President has made it clear that affected families must be properly relocated, their homes replaced, and fair compensation ensured,” Calaguas said.

San Pedro Mayor Art Joseph Mercado expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its positive impact on the community.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the Department of Transportation and its partner agencies. This project has not only delivered vital infrastructure but also created opportunities for a better life for our constituents,” Mercado said.

Beneficiaries have also expressed their gratitude. One resident, Nanay Lolita, shared her appreciation for the government’s support.

“We are thankful to the President for this opportunity. My son now has a home, and we feel fortunate that we were not forgotten,” she said.

In addition to the San Pedro development, the DOTr is collaborating with the National Housing Authority (NHA), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to establish resettlement areas in Bulacan, Pampanga, and Laguna.

The housing program underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure development—ensuring that while transportation systems are expanded, the welfare of affected communities remains a top priority.
