The Department of Energy (DOE) is officially set to launch the 7th Round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-7) this year. This latest auction underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating the nation’s energy transition while fostering deeper private sector engagement in the renewable energy (RE) landscape.
GEA-7 aims to significantly boost renewable energy capacity nationwide, with a strategic focus on diversifying the country’s energy mix. The auction will feature a variety of solar technologies, including:
-
Solar Rooftop
-
Ground-Mounted Solar
-
Floating Solar
Notably, this round includes a substantial allocation for Mindanao, ensuring that the benefits of the renewable transition are distributed across the archipelago to support regional energy security.
In a move to address the intermittent nature of renewable sources, the DOE has introduced a new mandate for GEA-7: all ground-mounted solar projects must integrate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). > “By requiring BESS integration, we are not just adding capacity; we are ensuring that our renewable shift contributes to a more stable and reliable national grid,” the Department noted.
To ensure a structured and realistic rollout, the DOE has established specific delivery windows based on technology types. Successful bidders are expected to commence commercial operations within the following timeframe:

Target Delivery: 2027 to 2029
