Vena Energy strengthens partnership with Tanay indigenous communities through community fund turnover

Quezon Wind Energy Corp. (QWEC), a subsidiary of Asia-Pacific green energy leader Vena Energy, reached a significant milestone in its community engagement with a formal check turnover ceremony for the Dumagat/Remontado Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) of Tanay.

The ceremony, held in Quezon City, marks the formal remittance of community funds to the Tanay ICCs via the Tanay Dumagat Remontado Ancestral Domain Development, Inc. (TDRADDEVI). This Indigenous Peoples’ Organization (IPO) was established through the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) process, ensuring that the development remains community-led and transparent.

The partnership is designed to funnel resources into priorities identified by the ICCs themselves. Key initiatives include:

  • Infrastructure: Critical improvements to local facilities.

  • Education & Health: Enhanced access to schooling and medical services.

  • Livelihood: Sustainable programs tailored to the community’s traditional and modern needs.

“At Vena Energy, we believe the transition to clean energy should create lasting value for the communities we work with while honoring their heritage and rights,” said Samrinder Nehria, Head of Vena Energy in the Philippines. “This milestone reflects our commitment to a sustainable future where indigenous voices are not just heard, but valued.”

The collaboration serves as a blueprint for private-sector engagement with indigenous groups. By strictly adhering to FPIC protocols, Vena Energy ensures that renewable energy projects are built on mutual respect.

Eleonor Atencio, President of TDRADDEVI, noted the impact of the long-term relationship: “Vena Energy has been a very active and supportive partner throughout the years. These opportunities have boosted our confidence in our own capabilities and inspired us to grow.”

Dr. Carlos Buasen, Jr., NCIP R4A Regional Director, lauded the harmony between corporate goals and community welfare. “We are happy to have a relationship with a company whose sustainability efforts aren’t just focused on its business, but also on the people and the ancestral domains affected by it.”
