Pres. Marcos Jr. launches “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” program to bolster food security

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” event at the General Trias Sports Park on Monday, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring national resources directly reach the country’s local communities.

The program marks a strategic shift in the utilization of the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), which is now designed to provide immediate, tangible benefits to local government units (LGUs) and their constituents.

A central feature of the initiative is a sustained food subsidy program. Under this scheme, vulnerable families will receive 10 kilograms of rice every two months, totaling six distributions per year. The President noted that this proactive measure serves as a critical buffer against the fluctuating prices of essential goods.

“We know that when oil prices rise, the cost of other goods follows. It is fortunate that we have this program in place,” President Marcos stated. “We didn’t create this solely because of a crisis; we created it to serve. We are fortunate that our timing aligns with the needs of the people.”

To complement the food security efforts, the President highlighted the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF). This fund allocates PhP200,000 to every barangay, empowering local leaders to implement community-based projects tailored to the specific needs and welfare of their residents.

The President emphasized that the success of these initiatives relies on the integrity of local officials. He tasked barangay leaders with the critical responsibility of identifying beneficiaries, stressing that the distribution of aid must remain fair, transparent, and accountable.

Looking toward the future, the Chief Executive expressed his intent to expand these social safety nets if current implementations prove successful.

“Expect that we will never stop searching for ways to help our countrymen,” the President said. “Once we have fine-tuned the delivery of these services, we will strive to increase the funding next year to provide even greater assistance.”

  • Attendees: The event was joined by General Trias Mayor Luis A. Ferrer IV, DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr., and over 2,300 local residents.

  • Core Values: The “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” Program is anchored on the administration’s vision of inclusive growth, ensuring that no community is left behind by national progress.

The program serves as a testament to the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” campaign, focusing on the seamless integration of national and local government efforts to improve the lives of every Filipino.
