The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) hosted a high-level delegation from the Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden at the DOLE Central Office to explore strategic partnerships aimed at advancing occupational safety and health (OSH) standards across the country.
The bilateral meeting focused on cultivating safer, healthier, and more productive environments for the Filipino workforce by leveraging Sweden’s world-renowned workplace safety frameworks.
During the courtesy visit, officials from both nations engaged in a dynamic exchange of workplace safety strategies. A primary focus of the dialogue was identifying pathways for Swedish technical support to enhance DOLE’s localized OSH implementation and enforcement mechanisms.
Recognizing Sweden’s leadership in industrial safety and sustainable labor practices, the collaboration aims to bridge gaps in current workplace protocols and introduce modern, data-driven safety standards to Philippine industries.
As a testament to this growing partnership, the Swedish delegation extended an official invitation to DOLE leadership to participate in the upcoming Team Sweden Safety and Sustainability Forum, which will further deep-dive into sustainable corporate governance and worker protection.
The meeting brought together top-tier policymakers and trade experts from both nations, including:
-
Philippine Delegation (DOLE): Led by Officer-in-Charge Benedicto Ernesto R. Bitonio Jr., alongside Undersecretary Felipe N. Egargo Jr., Assistant Secretary Amuerfina R. Reyes, Occupational Safety and Health Center Director Jose Maria S. Batino, Employees’ Compensation Commission Executive Director Kaima Via B. Velasquez, and Bureau of Working Conditions Director Alvin B. Cuarada.
-
Swedish Delegation: Led by Her Excellency, Ambassador Anna Ferry, accompanied by Senior Trade Promotions Officer Giselle Yap, and Business Sweden Senior Consultants Mae Balandan and Gerard Hunting-Tuazon.
