Lufthansa Technik PH to stop providing line maintenance services effective Aug. 1, 2026

Starting August 1, 2026, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) will discontinue providing line maintenance services, as it will focus on base maintenance services and aircraft overhaul operations, based on company statement.
Line maintenance in aviation means day-to-day, routine, and immediate servicing performed on an aircraft while it is in active service, as opposed to base maintenance, which is heavy, scheduled, and in-depth overhauls conducted in a hangar, taking the aircraft out of service for extended periods.
Line maintenance acts as the “first line of defense” to ensure quick turnaround times, while base maintenance ensures long-term airworthiness and structural integrity.
In a statement, the long-time partner of Philippine Airlines (PAL) said it has made the strategic decision to further strengthen and expand its in-house maintenance capability by performing its entire line maintenance internally and servicing its full fleet through its existing maintenance organization.
“By bringing line maintenance in-house, Philippine Airlines is following a broader industry trend among airlines. Philippine Airlines, with whom Lufthansa Technik Philippines has maintained a close partnership for over 25 years, will remain a customer for base maintenance services in Manila,” the statement added.
Established in 2000, LTP is a partnership between Germany’s Lufthansa Technik AG (51%) and Lucio Tan Group’s MacroAsia Corporation (49%), serving clients worldwide from a large facility at NAIA.

LTP is a premier provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) with a facility near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, specializing in base maintenance for widebody and narrowbody aircraft.
