Nepomuceno to American businessmen: BOC is going full digital to facilitate trade, transparency

Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno together with his key officials assured American businessmen in the Philippines that the agency is committed to full digitalization of its operations to promote a transparent and red tape free bureaucracy.

Nepomuceno participated in the recent roundtable with the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines on May 14 where he underscored the bureau’s continuing efforts to modernize customs operations, strengthen trade facilitation, and improve engagement with the business community.

In his presentation, Commissioner Nepomuceno highlighted the Bureau’s ongoing reforms focused on full digital transformation, organizational restructuring, and enhanced stakeholder engagement.

The BOC chief presented and discussed the Customs Processing System (CPS) and the adoption of advanced technologies to streamline customs processes, strengthen anti-smuggling efforts, and improve operational efficiency as part of the administration’s broader modernization initiatives under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

“We are committed to modernizing the Bureau through technology-driven reforms that will strengthen transparency, improve operational efficiency, and make customs processes more responsive to the needs of stakeholders and the business community,” Commissioner Nepomuceno said.

Commissioner Nepomuceno also discussed reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and responsiveness to stakeholders’ needs, including the planned establishment of a Top Importers Office, the strengthening of maritime enforcement capabilities against smuggling, and broader structural reforms within customs operations. He further reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to collaboration with stakeholders, stating.

“We will continue to engage sincerely with our stakeholders because the Bureau of Customs must be a partner in helping businesses grow, not an obstacle to their operations,” he added.

The dialogue reinforced the Bureau’s commitment to advancing its Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization (IAM) Program by strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and promoting transparent, efficient, and business-friendly customs processes.

Through sustained reforms and continued engagement with the private sector, the BOC aims to further enhance trade facilitation and support the country’s economic growth objectives.
