Aviation professionals from across Southeast Asia have officially convened at the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) in Pasay City for the launch of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Implementation Plan Training in ASEAN (GIPTA) 2.0.
Hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the intensive two-week capacity-building initiative runs from May 19 to May 28, 2026.
Now in its second iteration since its successful launch in 2024, GIPTA is a premier regional program supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). The initiative serves as a vital collaborative platform, bringing together aviation regulators, air navigation service provider (ANSP) representatives, and safety experts to harmonize and elevate air traffic technologies across the region.
The primary objective of GIPTA 2.0 is to strengthen the technical expertise and practical understanding of cutting-edge GNSS infrastructure. Over the ten-day training period, participants will dive deep into key satellite technologies, including:
-
Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) operations
-
Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) applications
-
Aircraft-Based Augmentation System (ABAS) frameworks
As the backbone of modern aviation, GNSS serves as the world’s primary space-based navigation infrastructure. It provides the highly precise positioning and timing data necessary to keep aircraft safely separated and air traffic management systems operating at peak efficiency.
By investing in this collaborative training, ASEAN member states are actively working toward the seamless integration and rollout of these critical technologies. GIPTA 2.0 underscores a shared regional commitment to bolstering airspace safety, expanding capacity, and building a more interconnected, future-ready aviation network across Southeast Asia.
