PPA assures continuous operations and rapid recovery following Mindanao earthquake

Following the earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8, 2026, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has implemented immediate response protocols to assess the integrity of infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted maritime services.

Initial inspections by the Port Management Office (PMO) Davao revealed minor damages and temporary power disruptions at select port facilities.

According to the comprehensive safety assessment conducted immediately after the incident, the current status of the affected ports is as follows:

Port Facility Assessment Findings Operational Status
Port of Malalag Minor cracks in the reinforced concrete backup area and perimeter fence; temporary power outage. Operational; monitoring underway.
Port of Mati Temporary power interruption. Operational; auxiliary power deployed.

The PPA’s rapid-response inspection teams were deployed to evaluate the structural integrity of all facilities. The primary focus remains the safety of all port personnel, passengers, cargo handlers, and other stakeholders, alongside the preservation of vital supply chains.

Despite the minor disruptions, port operations remain functional to ensure the continuous flow of goods and travel in the region.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago reassured the public that swift corrective measures are already underway to address the minor damages and power issues.

“Our immediate priority is to restore all affected facilities to peak condition,” said GM Santiago. “The PPA remains fully committed to maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient port services for the public, ensuring that relief and commerce continue to move without delay.”

The PPA will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide routine updates as engineering assessments and restorations progress.
