MariBank has officially been granted a digital banking license by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), marking a major step forward in the bank’s continued growth and commitment to serving Filipinos through digital-first banking.
The transition reclassifies MariBank from a rural bank to a digital bank under BSP regulations. Prior to receiving the digital banking license, MariBank operated under a rural bank license while serving customers through a primarily digital banking model.
Existing customers can continue enjoying the same banking experience they know today. MariBank remains supervised by the BSP, and deposits of up to P1 million remain insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC). No action is required from customers as a result of the reclassification.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan remarked, “MariBank has been an early supporter of the Bangko Sentral’s digital payments agenda, having been among the first financial institutions to offer free fund transfers. Now, as a fully operational digital bank, I am confident that MariBank will deliver an even stronger value proposition—driving innovation and competition while benefiting both consumers and the broader banking industry.”
“This license reflects the trust our customers have placed in us from the very start,” said Siew Ghee Kung Lim, president of MariBank Philippines. “Our goal has always been to build a bank that actually works for Filipinos by being simple, reliable, and rewarding. That doesn’t change. The reclassification only positions MariBank to continue innovating and reach more Filipinos over time,” added Lim.
The milestone comes on the heels of MariBank being named the #1 bank in the Philippines in Forbes’ 2026 World’s Best Banks list.
