Following consecutive typhoons and the continuing impact of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) assured the public that port operations across the country remain safe, orderly, and prepared.
Through proactive early notifications and round-the-clock coordination with shipping lines and key government agencies, the agency is actively managing travel disruptions and prioritizing passenger safety.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago emphasized that Port Management Offices (PMOs) nationwide have intensified communication channels with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local government units (LGUs), shipping operators, and terminal service providers.
“Our main priority is maintaining absolute safety across all port facilities while ensuring immediate relief and assistance to stranded passengers,” Santiago stated. “We are closely monitoring real-time weather conditions on sea and land to make informed, safety-first operational decisions.”
To cushion the impact of voyage cancellations and delays, PPA facilities have activated comprehensive emergency response protocols, including:

24/7 Command Monitoring: Continuous synchronization between the PPA Head Office, local PMOs, and maritime health and safety agencies.

Essential Resources & Power Backup: Uninterrupted availability of auxiliary power systems, emergency communication links, medical first-aid kits, and critical provisions.

Passenger Care Services: In partnership with maritime partners, relief assistance is actively being provided. On August 9 and 10, Starhorse Shipping Lines Inc. distributed hot meals to 155 passengers sheltered at the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) in Port of Lucena.
The PPA reassures the public that vessel status updates and schedule adjustments are being relayed directly to passengers to reduce waiting times at terminal buildings.
Travelers with scheduled sea trips are strongly encouraged to keep track of official PPA advisories and coordinate directly with their respective shipping lines for real-time updates regarding vessel departures, trip deferrals, or cancellations.
