DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, today announced the launch of a new direct flight connecting Shanghai and Bangkok.
Operated by a Boeing 767 freighter with a maximum payload capacity of 50 tons, the new daily route—Shanghai–Bangkok–Bahrain–Brussels–Shanghai—significantly enhances express cargo connectivity across major manufacturing and consumer markets in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
The strategic addition directly addresses shifting global supply chains and rising trade volumes between China and the rapidly growing economies of the Indochina region, including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. By establishing Bangkok as a central gateway for Indochina, the flight optimizes shipment consolidation across Southeast Asia before seamlessly linking goods onward to DHL Express’s key hubs in Bahrain and Brussels.
“This route is a direct response to how trade flows in Asia are shifting,” said Peter Bardens, Senior Vice President for Network Operations & Aviation – Asia Pacific, DHL Express. “We’re seeing increasing movement of goods between China and Southeast Asia, alongside continued demand from customers in Europe and the Middle East for products manufactured across the region. This new route boosts our network where customers need it most, providing additional capacity and more direct connections between key production and consumption markets.”
As multi-country production chains deepen across Asia, the new daily flight provides businesses moving raw materials, high-tech components, and finished consumer goods with faster transit times, greater operational flexibility, and enhanced supply chain resilience.
The route expansion complements DHL Express’s ongoing infrastructure investments across the Asia-Pacific region. Most recently, the company expanded its gateway facility at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, tripling its daily handling capacity to 900 tons of cargo to accommodate surging cross-border trade and e-commerce demand.
Together with recent network additions—such as DHL Global Forwarding’s new transpacific service linking Southeast Asia and the U.S.—this service underscores DHL’s commitment to building agile, future-proof logistics networks that keep global trade moving smoothly.
