The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reaffirmed its commitment to workforce health and well-being by signing a new Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) contract with MEDOCare Health Systems, Inc.
The contract was signed through PPA’s accredited employees’ association, PANTALAN (National Executive Board), in coordination with the agency’s Human Resource Management Department (HRMD).
Effective immediately, the HMO program provides comprehensive healthcare benefits to 2,092 PPA personnel—encompassing both regular and Contract of Service (COS) employees—along with their qualified dependents. Under the agreement, beneficiaries gain access to MEDOCare’s extensive nationwide network, which includes over 10,000 accredited specialist doctors and more than 1,000 partner hospitals and clinics.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago emphasized that safeguarding employee health is central to sustaining port operations nationwide.
“Kahit po may mga bagyo, tuloy-tuloy ang operasyon ng PPA. Our employees give so much of themselves in serving the Filipino people, kaya nararapat lamang na alagaan din natin ang kanilang health and well-being,” GM Santiago said. “Kapag healthy, well-cared for, at supported ang ating workforce, mas nagiging matatag din ang PPA at mas mahusay nating napaglilingkuran ang ating mga kababayan.”
The HMO integration aligns with the Medical Allowance Benefit under the Compensation and Position Classification System (CPCS), authorized by the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG).
This new coverage enhances the agency’s existing suite of preventive healthcare initiatives. PPA regularly conducts its Annual Medical and Physical Examination (AMPE) for Head Office staff to promote proactive health management. Most recently, as part of its 52nd anniversary celebration in July 2026, the PPA organized a voluntary bloodletting activity among employees and port stakeholders to foster community involvement and health awareness.
By prioritizing employee healthcare alongside port development, the PPA continues to demonstrate that its most vital asset remains the workforce keeping the nation’s maritime trade and transportation moving.
