The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), together with partner government agencies, welcomed 12 Filipino seafarers who arrived safely at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, via Emirates flight EK332.
The seafarers were crew members aboard the Liberia-flagged chemical tanker M/V Tarif, which sustained damage during an outbound transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Upon arrival, representatives from the DMW, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Medical Team immediately extended comprehensive reception assistance, including preliminary medical screenings, financial aid, and airport clearance support. Representatives from the deploying manning agency, BSM Crew Service Centre Philippines, Inc., were also on-site to assist the crew.
To safeguard the crew’s well-being, the DMW and OWWA directed BSM Crew Service Centre Philippines, Inc. to immediately facilitate mandatory physical and psychological health assessments, complete comprehensive debriefing sessions, and ensure the prompt release of all benefits, salaries, and statutory compensation due to the crew.
In line with the standing directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DMW issued a renewed call to all licensed manning agencies and accredited foreign principals to maintain continuous monitoring of deployed Filipino seafarers. The department emphasized the strict enforcement of safety precautions and compliance with established maritime security protocols, particularly for vessels operating in or transiting through high-risk zones like the Strait of Hormuz.
The DMW reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Distressed OFWs and their families facing crises may access assistance through the government’s DMW AKSYON Fund under the UPLIFT Initiative. Assistance is readily available by visiting or contacting the DMW Central Office, any DMW Regional Office, or the nearest Migrant Workers Office (MWO) overseas.
