The Bureau of Customs – Port of Manila (BOC-POM) condemned and destroyed approximately ₱200,000 worth of non-compliant imported goods, consisting mainly of processed food items, frozen marine products, meat products, and other regulated commodities, as part of its intensified efforts to safeguard public health and curb unlawful importation.
Prior to the condemnation proceedings, the forfeited goods underwent the prescribed lawful process following the issuance of a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD), which was subsequently followed by an Order of Condemnation.
The activity was conducted in accordance with the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Republic Act No. 10611 or the Food Safety Act of 2013, and other relevant regulations governing the proper disposal of forfeited goods.
The condemned goods were rendered unfit for consumption through appropriate disposal methods, including shredding, crushing, and incineration. The condemnation proceedings were spearheaded by District Collector Rizalino Jose C. Torralba, who issued the corresponding Mission Order for the activity.
In line with transparency and accountability measures, and pursuant to the directive of Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the entire condemnation process was streamed live through the official social media pages of the Port of Manila, allowing the public to witness the proper disposition of the subject goods.
This initiative underscores the BOC’s intensified campaign against smuggling and the unlawful importation of goods that pose risks to public health and safety. The Bureau remains committed to upholding border protection, ensuring compliance with customs and trade laws, and promoting transparency across all its operations.
