DPWH completes solar streetlight project on Pico–Lamtang road in La Trinidad, Benguet

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the Pico–Lamtang Road in La Trinidad, Benguet, a move aimed at enhancing road safety, nighttime visibility, and regional accessibility.

The P120.57-million initiative, implemented under the government’s Build Better More Program, involved the installation of 696 single-arm solar streetlights mounted on 9-meter poles anchored to reinforced concrete pedestals. Additionally, 89 linear meters of roller steel barriers were put in place to further ensure motorist safety.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Khadaffy D. Tanggol underscored the strategic importance of the Pico–Lamtang Road, a tertiary route that serves as an alternate connection between La Trinidad and Region I. The road is vital for transporting agricultural produce from northern Benguet to neighboring provinces.

“This project is a testament to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to modernizing the country’s infrastructure while supporting regional agricultural economies,” said Director Tanggol. “It aligns with the Bagong Pilipinas vision of sustainable infrastructure that prioritizes public safety and rural development.”

Executed by the Benguet First District Engineering Office, the upgraded road is expected to spur economic activity by encouraging tourism and improving the efficiency of transporting highland vegetables and strawberries. With better lighting and enhanced safety measures, farmers and motorists alike can now travel with greater confidence, especially after dark.
