DMW launches consultation on global OFW welfare in Rome; Unveils ‘New World Hero’ service caravan

The Philippine government, through a high-level inter-agency delegation, has launched a crucial consultation phase in Rome for the Labor Management Migration Management Plan (LaMMP) 2025-2028. This initiative is a core component of the administration’s intensified effort to strengthen the welfare, protection, and policies governing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) worldwide.

The consultation, held in Italy—home to a significant and vibrant Filipino diaspora—convened key stakeholders, including representatives from the Philippine Embassy in Rome, officers and personnel from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and the head of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs. Crucially, the process centered on direct engagement with Filipino community leaders and workers in Italy.

The primary objective of the discussion was to listen intently to the real-life experiences, challenges, and constructive suggestions of OFWs. The feedback gathered will directly shape the LaMMP framework, ensuring the resulting programs and policies are more meaningful, responsive, and beneficial to all Filipino migrant workers across the globe.

Held in conjunction with the LaMMP consultation at the A. Roma Lifestyle Hotel, the government simultaneously launched the “New World Hero – OFW Service Caravan.” This comprehensive outreach program aims to bring basic and essential government services directly to the Filipino community.

The Service Caravan offered a wide array of assistance, including documentation services, legal consultations, business management and entrepreneurship advice, welfare support, and reintegration capacity enhancement programs. This “whole-of-government” approach provides holistic support to uplift the status of Filipinos residing in Rome and prepares them for a successful return and reintegration into the country.

Congressman Bryan Revilla, who leads the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs and spearheaded the delegation, emphasized the significance of these dual initiatives.

“This intensified effort in Italy, coupling policy consultation with direct, tangible services, is a clear manifestation of the ‘New Philippines’ vision,” stated Congressman Revilla. “Our OFWs are the backbone of our nation, and these twin initiatives underscore our commitment to listening to them and ensuring they receive the full support commensurate with their immense contribution as our New Heroes of the World. The LaMMP will be the blueprint for their stronger protection and empowerment over the next four years.”

These consultations and service caravans mark a significant step forward in fulfilling the national government’s commitment to strengthening the protection and recognition of the millions of Filipinos who contribute so greatly to the nation’s socio-economic stability.
