The Office for Transportation Security (OTS), the lead agency responsible for civil aviation security in the Philippines, successfully conducted a comprehensive security audit of Asiana Airlines operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The initiative, which ran from October 6 to October 10, 2025, reaffirms the agency’s commitment to stringent civil aviation security procedures, directly aligning with President Ferdinand R. Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s directive to enhance aircraft and passenger security in compliance with international and national security standards.
The audit focused on evaluating Asiana Airlines’ adherence to established security protocols, ensuring the highest level of safety for all passengers and aircraft utilizing Philippine gateways.
“Maintaining a secure air transportation environment is our top priority,” said an OTS spokesperson. “This security audit is part of our proactive, continuous monitoring process to ensure that all foreign air carriers operating in the Philippines meet and exceed the rigorous national and international security benchmarks.”
The comprehensive review was led by OTS National Aviation Security Auditors Ms. Erma Cariaga and Mr. Raffy Romero from the Civil Aviation Security Division. The process began with an official entry briefing with Asiana Airlines management on October 6.
Throughout the week, the audit team performed a detailed evaluation, which included:
Interviews with various airline personnel, including cabin crew and security staff, to assess their understanding and execution of security protocols.
Evaluation of critical security procedures, including passenger screening, baggage and cargo security, and access controls.
Upon the conclusion of the audit on October 10, the OTS auditors began compiling their findings. They will provide a formal report and specific, actionable recommendations to Asiana Airlines management. The goal is to further enhance the airline’s security posture, safeguarding its operations and contributing to a secure transportation environment for all passengers at NAIA.
The OTS remains dedicated to its mandate of ensuring transportation security across all ports, facilities, and conveyances in the country.
