President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed all concerned government agencies to sustain and intensify their support for families affected by the recent earthquake in Davao Oriental, emphasizing a coordinated whole-of-government approach to ensure swift recovery and rehabilitation.
During a situation briefing with local and national officials, President Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing timely and comprehensive assistance to those impacted. He underscored the crucial role of local government units (LGUs) in assessing needs on the ground and delivering aid directly to their constituents.
“Our LGUs are our first responders. They know the needs of their people best. The national government will continue to back them up with resources and support to make sure that no family is left behind,” President Marcos said.
The President announced the distribution of ₱298 million in financial assistance for affected communities across Davao Region and Caraga, which will be coordinated through various national agencies and local government units.
To further bolster relief and rehabilitation efforts, President Marcos outlined several key government interventions:
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will provide modular shelters and essential construction materials for displaced families.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will release funds under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) to help LGUs in recovery operations.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will utilize its Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the repair and rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and public facilities.
The President commended the prompt response of national and local disaster response teams, as well as volunteers who have extended assistance in affected communities. He reiterated his administration’s priority to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience efforts, especially in areas frequently affected by natural disasters.
“This is not just about rebuilding what was damaged, but building back better, stronger, and safer communities,” President Marcos added.
The national government continues to monitor the situation in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and relevant agencies to ensure that all forms of aid reach those most in need.
