The Senate has successfully concluded its deliberations on the General Principles of the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 National Budget, a significant step toward finalizing the government’s spending plan for the coming year.
The proposed national budget, amounting to PHP 6.793 trillion, outlines key priorities focused on sustaining economic growth, enhancing public service delivery, and ensuring alignment with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028.
The Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) expressed its sincere appreciation for the Senate’s thorough review. During the discussions, Senate Committee on Finance Chairman Senator Sherwin Gatchalian addressed queries from senators regarding strategic resource allocation, fiscal discipline, and sustained investments in human capital and infrastructure, all critical components for advancing the nation’s development goals.
DEPDev Budget Deliberations Concluded, Advancing Strategic Planning
In parallel, the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) also extended its gratitude to the Senate for concluding the plenary deliberation on its proposed PHP 15.35 billion FY 2026 budget.
This milestone is crucial for operationalizing DEPDev’s strengthened mandate under the Economy, Planning, and Development Act (Republic Act No. 12145). The Act establishes DEPDev as the Executive Branch’s primary policy, planning, coordinating, and monitoring arm on the national economy.
Through the budget, DEPDev reaffirms its commitment to enhancing long-term strategic planning and foresight, as well as strengthening planning and budgeting linkages. This ensures that all government programs and investments are consistently aligned with the PDP 2023–2028 and the country’s long-term vision of a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay (stable, comfortable, and secure life) for all Filipinos.
