The new, significantly expanded, and improved Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Lounge at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 was officially inaugurated on Monday, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing comfort and care for the country’s modern-day heroes.
The official opening was graced by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, alongside key government and private sector partners, including NNIC President Ramon Ang, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator PY Caunan. They were joined by Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, representatives from the diplomatic corps, and various government officials.
The upgraded facility is a flagship project stemming from the partnership between the government and NNIC, designed to serve as a comfortable, spacious, and secure transit hub for OFWs awaiting their flights.
“More than just an added facility, this lounge is a tangible symbol of the nation’s profound appreciation and genuine concern for our countrymen,” said an OWWA representative. “The roomier space, enhanced seating capacity, and welcoming ambiance reflect the sacrifices made by our OFWs for their families and the Philippines.”
In just one year, the OFW Lounges across NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 have successfully served nearly 1.5 million Overseas Filipino Workers. This impressive usage rate underscores the necessity and positive impact of the services provided to the traveling public.
The inauguration kicks off the “OFW Season” this December, which will feature a full month of dedicated programs, services, and expressions of gratitude for OFWs and their families. The public is encouraged to follow the official OWWA Facebook page for the daily Calendar of Activities full of service, engagement, and concern for the nation’s New Heroes.
